Poodles can actually trace their origin back to Germany, going back more than 400 years. The Poodle was named after the German word pudel, meaning to splash in water or puddle. Poodles were originally bred to be water retrievers. In France, the dog was also named chien canard or caniche, indicating its duck-hunting skills. Poodles were also used as a guide dog, guard dog, military dog, circus performer, and wagon puller for entertainers.
Today, Standard Poodles are elegant, energetic athletes who move with a light, springy gait. They excel in advanced obedience competition, where retrieving and jumping skills are required, and in agility (obstacle course) competitions. A good Standard Poodle is one of the smartest and most trainable of all breeds. He is a "thinking" dog who pays rapt attention to his owner, learns quickly, and responds eagerly to positive training methods. The standard poodle is one of the most attentive of all breeds, such a skilled reader of body language and expression, that he often appears telepathic. He is certainly intuitive. Poodles are mostly family pets, showdogs, therapy dogs and companions. Poodles can be glamorous, fun and useful working dogs- there are not many dog breeds that can do all that.

Telemachus and Sasha enjoyed a very long and happy life. Together they produced outstanding representations of their breed; passing along their special personality traits and wonderful temperaments to their offspring.
Telemachus passed away several weeks before his 16th birthday in 2017. He will remain my heart.
Sasha is now enjoying the retired life. She sees a number of her offspring often and plays as if she were a youngster.
